Here’s how much you need to earn an hour to buy a house in each Leeds postcode
Ever wondered how much you’d have to earn to buy a house in the most expensive area of Leeds?
Online retailer Web Blinds has created a tool that compares the average house price in each postcode with the hourly wage one person would need to earn to buy there.
Unsurprisingly, the city’s northern suburbs are the priciest, with Alwoodley, Moortown and Shadwell topping the chart alongside rural villages such as Harewood and Bardsey. You’d need to earn a whopping £20.60 per hour to get on the housing ladder here.
You’ll also need to take home more than £19 per hour to buy in other popular spots such as Adel, Guiseley, Bramhope, Weetwood and Far Headingley, and £18 to own a property in Horsforth.
To purchase a home in sedate Roundhay, you’ll need to be earning £15.89 per hour – although there are cheaper homes to be found in other areas of the LS8 postcode, such as Harehills and Gipton.
At the bottom of the table, a worker earning £6.66 per hour could afford to buy in LS11 – which includes Beeston, Cottingley and Holbeck.
Homes in East End Park, Gipton, Harehills, Burley, Woodhouse, Bramley, Armley, Wortley, Farnley, Belle Isle, Hunslet and Middleton are all affordable for those earning less than £10 per hour.
(Please note that the postcodes LS22, LS23 (Wetherby), LS21 (Otley), LS24 (Tadcaster) and LS28 (Pudsey) were not included in the data)
